A NetBehaviourist joins Flickr

The other day I joined Flickr. Here is an URL netbehaviourist to my account, which will fill up as time goes by.

The last few days have been extremely valuable for me. Time has actually slowed down, making life currently a little calmer. Although, I still do have emails to write and send, as well as various works to view and review for Furtherfield, to be ready for Janurary 2007. But, thankfully, Christmas is here. As many of you may be aware of by now. I am not a religious sort, but this is one time of the year when I am more tolerant towards those who celebrate it. Because this time of year offers someone like myself a chance to spend more time viewing different aspects of online culture, in a relaxed manner. Plus, I can still do other things away from the computer, like go to parties and cook some decent quality food.

Using an online community-based platform such as Flickr opens up the arena for self-created images to be shared, whilst at the same time using it as a practical networking tool. Especially in respect of images. In the media art world much emphasis is put on the art or projects, being technoligical tools themselves, or interactive in one way or another. And as someone who is deeply involved in such technologically orientated activities. Exhibiting it, curating it, making it, writing about it, being part of various communities connected with theory & discussion on media art. It is refreshing to just upload an image and simply share it with others, letting images be art once more. The simplicity of it all is actually reassuring and attractive.

Here are a few curiosities that I recently found on Flickr:

Santarchy & Santacon.
Every December for the last 13 years, Cacophonous Santas have been visiting cities around the world, engaging in a bit of Santarchy as part of the annual Santacon events.

The Santarchy web site.

Cuttlefish on Flickr, created some photo sets on the theme of the War on Christmas.

I also found this amazing photo taken by Fruitanimal.

If you are into robots, perhaps go and visit the massive group on Flickr called ROBOTS: technology + pop culture.

So, come and join in. And link up with myself and other creatives who are playfully exploiting (infiltrating) another platform. Happy Christmas :-) - I know, I should say Happy Holidays, may be I'll say it next year.
